The Electoral College- Benefits & Detriments

Objective:
  • Recognize how presidents are elected through the Electoral College
  • Identify alternatives to the Electoral College
  • Describe the pros and cons of the Electoral College

Journal:
  • From what you remember from earlier this year (or from pre-existing knowledge), what is the Electoral College?
Vocabulary: -Electoral College: A group of people chosen by voters in each state. These people (“electors”) will vote for the President and Vice President.
-Popular Vote: The people's votes!
-Winner Take All: Whoever wins the most popular votes gets ALL of the state's electoral votes. (Even if they get less than half of the popular votes)
