STANDARD: 2.4
ESSENTIAL QUESTION:How are Constitutional principles upheld by citizens effective exercising their roles and responsibilities?
OBJECTIVE: Recognize the history of political parties in the US, Understand our multi-party system, Identify the role of Political Parties in the United States, Describe the two major parties in the U.S. and their political beliefs
JOURNAL: What's a political party? What do you know about Political Parties in the United States?

VOCABULARY: Political Party, Two-Party System, Liberal, Moderate, Conservative 
  • Political Party: Organization that seeks to achieve power by electing its members to public office
  • Two-party System:System in which two parties dominate the electoral process and control the government
  • Liberal:Ideology favoring an active role for government in efforts to solve society's problems
  • Moderate: Someone closer to the middle of the political spectrum, less extreme in political beliefs
  • Conservative:Ideology favoring a limited role for government and more private initiative by nongovernmental group sin efforts to solve society's problems
